Irresponsible Visitor Behavior Results in Euthanization of Food-Conditioned Black Bear in Glacier National Park

A food-conditioned black bear was euthanized by Glacier National Park staff at Many Glacier. The bear was seen searching for and consuming human foods at Many Glacier Campground, showing little fear of humans, behavior that is likely the result of the recklessness of previous park visitors.

Solo Hiker Survives Grizzly Bear Attack in Denali National Park

In the evening of August 23, 2021, a grizzly sow with two cubs attacked a solo hiker in Denali National Park’s Thoroughfare Pass area. He managed to deploy bear spray, but still suffered significant injuries. He did survive the attack, was able to hike out by himself, and is now in stable condition.

Native American Charles F. Sams III Nominated as New National Park Service Director
