Hawaiian acai bowls recipe inspired by: Haleakalā National Park, Maui, Hawaii (alternatively: Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park)
These ridiculously healthy Hawaiian acai bowls will transport you to a Hawaiian rain forest-backed beach, the perfect way to start any day.
Featuring tropical fruits like acai berries, bananas and coconut, as well as honey, chia seeds and granola, this is basically Hawaii in a bowl.
I used my own visit to Haleakalā National Park as the inspiration for this acai bowls recipe, particularly the world-famous—and occasionally sketchy—Road to Hana, also known as the Hana Highway.
Although this road is not a part of the national park itself, it is the only way to get to Haleakalā’s remote Kīpahulu District near the town of Hana.
Kīpahulu is home to gorgeous rain forests, palm tree-lined waterfalls, volcanic coastlines, Native Hawaiian heritage sites and amazing hiking trails. While the Summit District encompasses wild volcanic desert-like landscapes, Kīpahulu is essentially the tropical part of Haleakalā National Park.
Along the extremely winding Road to Hana, you’ll pass by numerous historic sites, natural attractions and countless food carts.
A variety of carts and little eateries serve up healthy granolas, tropical fruit smoothies, rice plates, mouthwatering barbecue dishes and other amazing Hawaiian fare.

Haleakalā Hawaiian Acai Bowls Recipe
Featuring crunchy granola, acai and other berries, banana, coconut, chia seeds, honey and several other healthy ingredients, these Haleakalā National Park-inspired acai bowls are essentially Hawaii in a bowl.
Ingredients
Acai Smoothie Base
- 2 acai packets (6-7 oz total)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted peanut butter
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen berries
- 1 tablespoon cacao powder
- 3/4 cup almond milk
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Toppings
- Granola
- Coconut flakes
- Banana
- Chia seeds
- Honey
- Berries
- ....
Instructions
- Place all acai smoothie ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth, stirring between blends as necessary.
- Pour acai smoothie into bowls. Add your favorite toppings.
- Enjoy!
