After a record-shattering summer last year, Death Valley National Park already broke some of its own heat records in June this year. Death Valley’s average day/night temperature was 102.9°F (39.4°C) in June 2021, beating the previous record by 1.1°F (0.6°C).

Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road Sees 41% More Vehicle Traffic on Opening Day Than 2019

The famous Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park reopened to vehicle traffic on June 25 and immediately saw a spike in visitation compared with 2019. According to a NPS press release, preliminary data shows a 41% increase in the number of vehicles on the Going-to-the-Sun Road over opening day in 2019.

National Park Visitor Spending Supported 234,000 Jobs During Pandemic in 2020

The National Park Service announced in a new report that, in 2020, visitors to national parks contributed $28.6 billion to the U.S. economy. This visitor spending, much of which was during the COVID-19 pandemic, helped support no fewer than 234,000 jobs, most of them in communities surrounding parks.
