Often called “three parks in one”, Olympic National Park encompasses the towering Olympic Mountains, one of the world’s largest temperate rain forests and a long stretch of coastal wilderness. Boasting a huge biodiversity, it’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve.
As its name suggests, the park’s main feature and the reason for its historic popularity are its numerous hot springs. Known as the “Valley of Vapors” by Native Americans, who had been visiting the area for thousands of years to bathe in its healing waters, modern development began when the thermal waters were federally protected in the 19th century.
