Which National Parks Are Open?
LAST UPDATE: June 26, 2020
After more than two months of lockdowns and stay-at-home orders, most of America’s national parks have started to reopen. So, if you’re wondering which national parks are open now, you can find that out below!
Among the first parks to reopen were major parks like Yellowstone, Zion, Great Smoky Mountains and Joshua Tree. However, a few parks do remain closed for the time being in adherence to state and CDC guidelines.
Below, you’ll find a handy overview of the current status of all 62 U.S. national parks.
Note, though, that even if a status is marked as “open”, that doesn’t mean everything in that particular park is open.
In nearly all parks, usually crowded public buildings and areas, such as visitor centers, museums and gift shops, remain closed.
An “open” status generally means that parks are accessible and scenic drives and hiking trails are open for use, while many facilities remain closed.
I recommend that you check each individual park’s website—just click on the name in the table!—for more detailed status updates.

National Park Trip Ideas
As more and more national parks begin to open their gates, many people, including myself, yearn to visit America’s greatest natural destinations again.
If you’re planning a national parks trip in the (near) future, I do, however, recommend that you check whether or not you can explore your destination of choice safely. Follow local guidelines and adhere to any restrictions. Protect yourself and others!
That said, I’d also like to provide you with some inspiration and ideas.
We might not be able to visit the park of our dreams like we wanted to this year, but at least we can still make plans. After all, planning and anticipation are half the fun!
